Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa is in advanced talks to sign Chennaiyin FC left back Aakash Sangwan, Halfway Football can exclusively confirm.
“FC Goa is now edging closer to get the signature of Aakash Sangwan. Multiple clubs was interested to acquire his service,” a source tracking the negotiations informed Halfway Football.
Aakash Sangwan is a Minerva Punjab youth product. He went on to play for the senior team and helped them win the Hero I-League title in 2017-18. He also played in the AFC Cup in 2019 for Minerva Punjab FC. After three seasons with Minerva Punjab, Sangwan joined Churchill Brothers FC in 2019.
He returned to Punjab to play for RoundGlass Punjab FC in the next season. His impressive two-year stint caught the eyes of ISL club Chennaiyin FC and the 27-year-old was signed by the Marina Machans on a two-year deal in 2022.
The Haryana-born full-back again impressed with his heroics in the left flank with Chennaiyin FC. He played 19 matches in the ISL, provided five assists, most by any defender in the league. He played a total of 26 games for Chennaiyin FC, assisting a total of 8 goals.
FC Goa has already started preparations for a new season. Spanish tactician and former ISL winning manager Manolo Marquez joined the Gaurs, signing a two-year deal. FC Goa is also making some brilliant moves in the transfer market, set to bring in Sandesh Jhingan, Raynier Fernandes, Boris Singh and Udanta Singh to bolster their Indian squad.
On the other hand, Lenny Rodrigues, Edu Bedia, Hernan Santana, Anwar Ali, Redeem Tlang and others have left the club. Defenders Saviour Gama and Aiban Dohling have various offers from ISL clubs and it is no surprise that they are looking to sign Sangwan.
