The newly promoted I-League side Delhi FC is all set to extend the contracts of their experienced Indian campaigners Balwant Singh, Gurtej Singh and Munmun Lugun for the upcoming season, with an option to extend for another year, Halfway Football can exclusively confirm.
“Balwant, Gurtej and Munmun Lugun are set to stay with Delhi FC for one more year, with an option to extend further. They signed for Delhi FC with an automatic extension clause if they get promoted to the I-League,” a source informed Halfway Football.
The former Indian national team striker Balwant Singh joined Delhi FC in January 2023 and was an integral part of the club’s Second Division League campaign. He scored seven goals in nine matches for the Delhi side.
The 36-year-old who started his professional career with JCT, has been in the Indian football circuit for more than 15 years. He has played for I-League clubs Salgaocar FC, Churchill Brothers and Mohun Bagan. He won two Indian Super League titles playing for Chennaiyin FC and ATK. He has also represented East Bengal in the ISL.
Gurtej Singh, the 33-year-old centre-back from Punjab, also joined Delhi FC in January 2023. He played 11 matches for his side and was a solid figure at the back.
Gurtej has immense experience on his shoulders, playing for clubs like Bengaluru FC, FC Pune City, Churchill Brothers, East Bengal, Mohammedan SC and RoundGlass Punjab FC.
The 30-year-old defender Munmun Timothy Lugun joined Delhi FC after a year stint with Kerala United FC. He played six matches for the club in the Second Division League.
Munmun Lugun started his career with United Sikkim and went on to play for several Indian clubs including Delhi Dynamos, Minerva Punjab, Mumbai FC, Mohammedan SC and Garhwal FC.
