Hernan Santana might go back to Spain – has offers from 3 clubs

The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder Hernan Santana was invited to the Indian Super League outfit Mumbai City FC on a season-long loan deal from Spanish second division side Real Sporting de Gijon last season.

In spite of being a midfielder, he played a crucial role at the back as a centre-back along with Mourtada Fall in Mumbai’s title-winning campaign.

As of now, the Spaniard is evaluating offers from three Spanish third-tier clubs – Algeciras CF, Unionistas CF and UD Sanse. After the end of his contract with Gijon this summer, he is now a free agent. 

Spanish Experience: Hernan Santana

Santana started his youth career at UD Las Palmas, progressing from their U-19 team to the B team, and eventually to the senior team in 2011. It was at Las Palmas where Santana played under Sergio Lobera for two seasons between 2012-2014. An integral part of his boyhood club, Santana made 133 appearances over six seasons for Las Palmas, including three seasons in the Spanish La Liga.

In 2018, Hernán moved to Sporting Gijón where he scored and assisted twice in 31 appearances over two seasons in the Segunda División, the second tier of Spanish football. 

The Indian Super League titleholder had registered 19/23 matches, scored 2 goals and maintaining his decency with 6 yellows.

Mumbai City FC: Pre-Season so far

Under the Spanish manager Sergio Lobera who had snatched the ISL Season 7 top scorer Igor Angulo, expecting a tight bong with Ahmed Jahouh and Mourtada Fall. Setting a stage for the replacement of Hugo Boumous is a necessity in the current situation for the Islanders, also the epic move of Apuia is setting Mumbai City FC on the hot contender seat for ISL Season 8.
