Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Goa is all set to complete the signing of midfielder Raynier Fernandes on a multi-year deal, Halfway Football can confirm. The 27-year-old had been on loan at Odisha FC from Mumbai City FC for the ongoing season.
“Raynier Fernandes has agreed to join FC Goa. The player is likely to sign a two-year deal with the club,” a source close to the developments informed Halfway Football.
Raynier started his career with Air India before moving on to Mohun Bagan. He joined Mumbai City FC in 2018 and has played over 70 matches for the Islanders. However, his contract with the club expires in May 2023, and it seems that he has decided to move on to a new challenge.
Rayiner Fernandes played a total of 25 matches for Odisha FC which includes four appearances in the Durand Cup and one in the ongoing Hero Super Cup. He provided three assists for Odisha FC in the concluded Hero ISL campaign.
Raynier has been a consistent performer in the ISL over the years and has established himself as one of the promising midfielders in the league. He was also part of the title-winning Mumbai City FC squad in the 2020-21 ISL season. His addition to the FC Goa squad is expected to provide them with more depth in the midfield. With the expected arrival of Manolo Marquez at the helm at FC Goa, the Gaurs have been building a strong squad and will be hoping to challenge for the title next season.
Overall, the signing represents a big coup for FC Goa, as they have gained the services of an experienced campaigner in the ISL. Rayinier’s ability to dominate the game from midfield and create chances for his teammates will make him a vital asset for the Gaurs in the coming seasons.
