Hero I-League outfit Mohammedan SC is all set to retain the service of 31-year-old Trinidadian attacker Marcus Joseph for another season, Halfway Football can confirm.
“Mohammedan and Marcus (Joseph) are in advanced stages of negotiations for extending the contract. He had other offers, but he is keen to extend his contract with the Black Panthers,” a source tracking the developments told Halfway Football.
The Trinidad and Tobago national team attacker’s first stint in India were with current I-League champions Gokulam Kerala FC. He spent two seasons with Malabarians playing I-League and Durand Cup, where he has a total of 30 goal contributions from 30 matches (25 goals and 5 assists).
Ahead of the previous season, Mohammedan SC signed him on a season-long deal. The striker was an integral part of Andrey Chernyshov’s side. He booted up 28 times for the Black Panthers where he scored 31 goals. He also has four assists to his name. He was the highest goal scorer (16) of the previous edition of the Hero I-League and also bagged the Hero of the League award.
Mohammedan SC missed the Hero I-League title following a 2-1 defeat against Gokulam Kerala FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium on the 14th of this month. The Kolkata-side managed by Russian coach Andrey Chernyshov will be looking to make the necessary additions and make the best squad for the upcoming edition of the Hero I league.
