Delhi FC, who gained promotion to the Hero I-League, is all set to sign three Indian players, including two former Indian national team players. Midfielder Sehnaj Singh, defender Raju Gaikwad and goalkeeper James Kithan will be joining the Delhi-based side on a one-year contract with an option to extend further, Halfway Football can exclusively confirm.
“Sehnaj, Gaikwad and James Kithan will be joining Delhi FC for the upcoming season with an optional extension clause,” a source following the developments informed Halfway Football.
Sehnaj Singh is a known name in the Indian football circuit having played for various clubs in the ISL and the I-League. The 29-year-old started his senior career with Pailan Arrows in the I-League and has played for clubs like Mumbai FC, Mohun Bagan, and East Bengal in the I-League.
ATK, Mumbai City FC, Delhi Dynamos, East Bengal and NorthEast United are the ISL clubs for which the Punjab-born has played. He made just a single appearance last season for NEUFC. He has experience playing more than 70 games in the ISL.
Raju Gaikwad, who is famous for his long throws, most recently booted up for I-League side Churchill Brothers, where he made 12 appearances last season. Primarily a centre-back, the Tata FA graduate can also operate as a full-back.
The 32-year-old has a tremendous experience on his shoulder having played for East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Kerala Blasters, FC Goa, Mumbai City and Jamshedpur FC.
Goalkeeper James Kithan will be re-joining Delhi FC after one-and-half years, as he was part of the squad in the 2021 I-League Qualifiers. He joined Gokulam Kerala FC in January 2022 after a short stint with Delhi. The 28-year-old has also played for Peerless SC, Mohammedan SC and Churchill Brothers.
These three Indian signings will bolster the Indian contingent of Delhi FC. They have roped in Yan Law as their head coach and has also retained some of their core Indian players.
